Information about the audition process, preseason rehearsals, enrollment, early move-in to on-campus housing (August 12), and the fall season will all be included, as well as information about online registration to inform us of your intent to audition in August. There will be two optional Pride of Oklahoma Audition Orientation Clinics on Saturday July 20 and Saturday July 27, from 3:00-6:00p, immediately following Camp Crimson. Clinics are open to both Prospective and Returning Members, and reservations are required. Attending one or both of these clinics is the first step towards a successful audition in August. We will address techniques that are fundamental to both marching and playing, and explain this year's audition process. More detailed clinic and reservation information will be available online soon.

Since 1985, the OU Wind Symphony has received acclaim for performances of the standard and contemporary band literature while performing for fifteen national and regional conventions of the College Band Directors National Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the American Bandmasters Association, and the Oklahoma Music Educators Association. The OU Wind Symphony commissions new music as well as collaborates with composers and performing artists on a regular basis. Composer collaborations have included Carter Pann, John Mackey, Kevin Walczyk, David Maslanka, Jonathan Newman, Michael Schelle, Marvin Lamb, Donald Grantham, Dan Welcher, Carolyn Bremer, Roland Barrett, and Cindy McTee. In addition to working with composers, the ensemble has collaborated with conductors and performing artists including Gary Hill, Gary Lewis, Jerry Junkin, Ray Cramer, Alan Bonner, Akira Endo, the American Brass Quintet, Rhythm and Brass, Brandon Ridenour, Brian Bowman, Sam Pilafian, and Harvey Phillips.

The Symphony Band is a seventy piece ensemble comprised of talented undergraduates who earn membership on the basis of audition. While the majority of members are music majors, the group also attracts talented musicians from across the campus. The group performs traditional and contemporary band repertoire that utilizes full instrumentation. Two campus concerts are given each semester.
The Symphony Band plays an integral role in the wind conducting curriculum by hosting guest conductors and participating in conducting workshops.
Rehearsals: Spring: M 6:30-9:30 PM
Membership is open to all students across the campus with previous instrumental experience, or for students who are majoring in music and wish to play their primary or secondary instrument. Auditions for Principal chair are held during the first week of class in January. Audition material for all concert ensembles will be posted on the website prior to the winter break. The 300-member “Pride of Oklahoma” has been supporting Sooner Spirit for over a century. The 2010 Pride included members from over 70 different majors across campus resulting in 75% of our band (225 out of 300) majoring in a field outside of music. The 2010 Pride had an average GPA of 3.40 and included students involved in various distinguished academic programs including: National Merit Scholars, Regent’s Scholars, Dean’s List, Honors College, Eagle Scouts, Byrd Scholars, and Goldwater Scholars. The Pride of Oklahoma stands for excellence in musicianship, academics, school spirit, and commitment to the role in our surrounding community.

WHO ARE THE SOONER SHOWMEN?
The Sooner Showmen are two Basketball Bands that perform at all home and tournament basketball games for the Men and Women’s teams. Home games take place at the Lloyd Noble Center, which seats 12,000 screaming Sooner fans! The Showmen perform before, during and after each game providing energy and spirit for players, fans and television viewers from all across the country!
The Pride of Oklahoma Color Guard performs alongside the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, providing a visual interpretation of the music, at all home football games, select away football games, and other events throughout the fall semester. The group focuses on tall flag choreography and marching with the sole goal of entertaining the 85,000 fans that attend every home game. Auditions for the Pride of Oklahoma color guard are held in the beginning of August.

We are updating the audition process for the Pride of Oklahoma drumline and pit. In an effort to address the changing needs of our students, we will now offer three audition options. As in the past, the audition will consist of both a playing and marching portion. The 2013 Pride of Oklahoma drumline membership will be announced June 1, 2013.
