Students auditioning for the Wind Symphony, Symphony Band or Orchestra prepare the same music and take part in the same audition. The music typically consists of excerpts from standard band or orchestral literature. The judging panel is comprised of members of the band staff as well as applied studio faculty. Students are assigned a letter and judges are placed behind a screen to ensure impartiality. After all students have auditioned, the scores are compiled and students are placed in one of the three ensembles.
